Peripheral Neuropathy

Do you experience...

  • Lack of coordination?
  • Numbness and tingling in the hands or feet, which may spread into the legs and arms?
  • Burning?
  • Sharp, stabbing, or electric-like pain?
  • Extreme sensitivity to touch?
  • Muscle weakness or paralysis?

You may be suffering from peripheral neuropathy.

Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is the term used to describe disorders of the nerves in the legs, feet, arms, and hands. PN affects many facets of life. It may be the result of traumatic injuries, lumbar disc herniations, diabetes, use of statins (cholesterol drugs), and exposure to toxins. PN can affect multiple nerves (polyneuropathy) or only one nerve or nerve group (mononeuropathy). Numbness and pain commonly occur in the feet, legs, hands and arms, which may worsen at night or after exercise. Regardless of the cause, PN may be quite painful, limit activities of daily living and decrease quality of life for many patients.

Damage decreases the oxygen and nutrient supply to nerves, causing them to become dormant. Most sufferers will begin to notice pain in the feet and legs. Symptoms and severity will vary, depending on which type of nerves are affected and the degree of damage.

Merivale Chiropractic & Massage Clinic offers a safe and comprehensive protocol for neuropathy and numbness. This is an option for those who would like to try a drug- and surgery-free protocol. Regardless of the cause of PN, our protocol may help restore proper health and nerve function.

NeuRemedy

It is estimated that over two million people are currently suffering from polyneuropathy in Canada and it is believed that more than one half of these cases go undiagnosed. Until recently, the mainstay of treatment for polyneuropathy was the use of drugs that sedate and depress nervous system function. Today many doctors have discovered that they can succesfully manage their patients' symptoms nutritionally with NeuRemedy, The Polyneuropathy Vitamin.

Adequate blood levels of the micronutrient thiamine are essential for the proper functioning of the peripheral nervous system. Elderly and diabetic patients as well as those who are on certain medications are unable to maintain adequate thiamine levels through normal dietary means or typical B1 supplements. For patients prone to developing polyneuropathy, NeuRemedy manages its symptoms by delivering a highly bioactive form of thiamine to where it is needed: the nerve cells. NeuRemedy works to improve the symptoms of polyneuropathy not by sedating the patient but by reversing a nutritional deficiency in their nerves.

NeuRemedy is a natural health product manufactured by The Orthotic Group and certified by Health Canada. For more information and to determine if NeuRemedy is for you, please call our office at (613) 226-8142 to book a complimentary consultation with one of our doctors.
